On June 4th, 2025, EMBARK College put together a valuable event during its “Mental Health & Wellness Week” as “The Better You Series” session, titled “Cognitive Clarity: Learn about overcoming Anxiety, OCD, and Intrusive Thoughts”. The expert speaker was Dr. Richa Amatya, a well-known Psychiatrist at Nepal Mediciti Hospital. Thanks to her outstanding skills and kindness, the meeting provided the attendees with beneficial information for improving their mental health.
The main point of the session was Cognitive Clarity, which allows people to focus their mind and balance out mental issues they encounter. Dr. Amatya started the session by mentioning that anxiety, OCD, and intrusive thoughts are among the many mental health problems many people experience. She pointed out that tackling these mental health issues is completely necessary to live a mentally healthy life. Acknowledging that “our minds are powerful” and require “proper care and guidance”, she turned the audience’s attention to the importance of being attentive to mental health.
It was organized so that you would apply the theory you learned and see it in practice. Amatya pointed out that anxiety is meant to help in certain situations, but becomes a problem if it keeps happening all the time. She informed the audience that people with OCD find themselves in a cycle of constant compulsion. She mentioned that intrusive thoughts, which are random and upsetting ideas, tend to be present in individuals with these conditions. Sharing real-life cases of academic pressure, work-related stres,s and what society expects, she was able to relate to both students, people in high-pressure jobs, and those interested in mental health.
Dr. Amatya gave advice by using evidence and included cognitive-behavioral tools such as mindfulness and changing negative thoughts. She described how practicing mindfulness shows people how to focus on what is happening now instead of worrying. She indicated that ERP is helpful for OCD sufferers, a method where people gradually expose themselves to their worries. As she gave out valuable tips, the audience joined her in practicing some breathing exercises that made the space more mellow.
Dr Amatya highlighted just how necessary it is that people look for guidance from professionals. According to her, it is not a sign of weakness to ask for support but shows strong character. Because of her past at Nepal Mediciti Hospital, she was able to make the audience aware of how urgent dealing with mental health issues could be. She told me that keeping a record of my thoughts could help me clear them from my mind.
All three of us felt that the Q&A session was the best part since it demonstrated how much the audience wanted to learn about the subject. Students raised questions about how to cope with exams, while professionals wanted to know how they can strike a balance in their lives. Dr. Amatya reacted kindly and patiently, letting the participants grasp their situations better from a professional’s point of view.
The meeting also looked at the bigger effects of cognitive clarity on a daily basis. According to her, focusing on your mental clarity may improve your relationships, how you think, how you feel throughout the day, and your work output. She motivated us to practice simple but helpful habits, like journaling and reflecting on a regular basis, since they help your mind and memory.
As the session came to an end, Dr. Amatya urged a diverse group of audience ranging from students, professionals, and mental health enthusiasts to view their mental health as an indispensable part of their lives to be prioritized. The event at EMBARK COLLEGE was a huge success. It was definitely a transformative experience, reinforcing the mission of ” The Better You Series” to inspire positive change.
