One such initiative was the Marketing Mix Workshop held on 11th July at Embark College and masterminded by an expert in the marketing field and an experienced marketing trainer/lecturer Mr. Sushil P. Shrestha. The aim of the workshop was to give students a clear idea of the traditional 4Ps of Marketing such as Product, Price, Place and Promotion and how the old concepts remain relevant in current business strategies.
The gathering was composed of students with a business background, management background and also those with a marketing background who shared one thing in common: a desire to reinforce their understanding of fundamental marketing concepts and the ability to put them to use to great effect. The workshop was in line with the Embark College practice of integrating theory with practice so that students can acquire critical skills to enable them to survive in the turbulent market world of marketing.
The talk started off by a short introduction of the speaker and a welcoming note. Mr. One of the most well-known names in the marketing strategy and brand management is Sushil P. Shrestha who had experience in the field of years by combining his years of work experience in academy and industry. The workshop was an enriching experience such that all attendees enjoyed his way of presentation, insights, and real-life examples.
Marketing Mix framework was the central idea of the workshop the one upon which businesses take strategic marketing decisions by considering customer want, competitive environment, and market scenario. Mr. Shrestha took the students through all the components:
- Product: Customer requirement, design, features, branding and lifecycle.
- Price: Penetration price, skimming, and value based price and what influences price elasticity.
- Place: Channels of distribution, logistics, availability in the form of digital or physical presence as well as accessibility.
- Promotion: Advertising, personal selling, usage of digital marketing methods, sales promotions and public relations.
Mr. Shrestha presented numerous examples of successful (or failed) attempts of implementing the 4Ps by brands in relation to the consumer behavior and competition and he did it using current market examples such as international tech giants to local startups. His observation regarding changing marketing practices also brought students a wider knowledge regarding 7Ps framework, including People, Process, and Physical Evidence which are important components of service-based businesses.
The most significant point of the session was a practical group exercise, which included dividing the students into teams and assigning each of them a task to develop a marketing strategy of a fictional product based on the 4Ps. All the groups managed to present their ideas through creativity and strategic thinking. Mr. Shrestha gave his feedback concerning their approach, a factor that helped them improve their comprehension regarding how each of the Ps functions relative to the other.
The interactive program led to open interaction and the students actively chatted on the current trends in the market, brand strategies and the issues being faced in the contemporary highly competitive digital environment. The Q&A part of the session allowed seeing in detail the questions raised regarding digital disruption, influencer marketing, pricing wars and customer experience, which makes it both relevant and thought-provoking.
Mr. Shrestha in his summing up stressed on the need of being adaptable, understanding customers, and practicing ethical marketing as the key attributes to emerging sustainable brands. Another thing that he urged the students to do was to monitor consumer behaviour in the market and market movements all the time in order to remain on the forefront in the game.
A formality vote of thanks at the end of the workshop by the college appreciated the time, experience and entertaining presentation of Mr. Shrestha. The attendees have been given certificates of attendance, and they provided positive feedback regarding the workshop, its clarity, relevance, and practical focus.
This was a worthwhile inclusion in the experiential learning projects of Embark College because of the Marketing Mix Workshop. It did not only give knowledge to students, but it also gave them tools to act that could help them in the competitive marketing environment and a strategic thinking. Embark college anticipates conducting more of these sessions that would equip the students with confidence and creativity of using classroom theories in solving real life challenges.
