Embark College organized a session for MBA students on 24th November, featuring Mr. Raj Bahadur
Shah, Managing Director of the Jawalakhel Group of Industries. The session focused on personal
experience sharing and the application of ethical theories, particularly duty-based and
consequence-based approaches to decision-making. The objective of the session was to help students
understand how ethical principles are applied in real business contexts and how leaders navigate ethical
dilemmas in organizational settings.
Mr. Shah shared insights from his professional journey, highlighting situations where ethical judgment
played a critical role in leadership decisions. Drawing from his experience in managing a large and
diverse business group, he discussed how ethical considerations influence strategic choices, stakeholder relationships, and long-term organizational sustainability. His personal reflections allowed students to see ethical theories not as abstract concepts, but as practical tools that guide responsible leadership.
The session explored the concepts of duty ethics and consequence ethics, explaining how leaders
balance moral obligations with the outcomes of their decisions. Mr. Shah illustrated these theories
through real-life examples, demonstrating how ethical dilemmas often require leaders to consider both
principled action and the broader impact on employees, customers, and society. This approach helped
students relate theoretical ethical frameworks to real-world business challenges.
The session encouraged active student participation, with discussions centered on ethical leadership,
accountability, and decision-making under pressure. Students raised questions about managing ethical
conflicts, maintaining integrity in competitive environments, and aligning organizational values with
business objectives. Mr. Shah addressed these questions candidly, emphasizing the importance of
consistency, transparency, and ethical courage in leadership roles.
By the end of the session, MBA students gained a deeper understanding of ethical theories and their
relevance to managerial practice. The discussion strengthened their ability to critically analyze ethical
issues and reflect on their own values as future leaders. Students were encouraged to consider how
ethical reasoning supports sustainable decision-making and builds trust within organizations.
This session added meaningful value to the MBA learning experience and reinforced Embark College’s
emphasis on ethics-driven management education. Through interactions with experienced industry
leaders, the institution continues to provide students with practical perspectives that support
responsible leadership and informed decision-making in complex business environments.
