Embark College successfully hosted a fascinating guest lecture on a topic called Stock Market Analysis by Mr. Rojesh Bhakta Shrestha, a well-experienced investment analyst and stock market training expert. That session was filled with a wide range of attendees: enthusiastic students that had a great deal to learn about the vibrant world of stocks and people who make financial decisions, trends in the market that affect their tendencies and behavior.
This lecture was one of the initiatives of Embark College in the context of fulfilling its mission of adequately training students on how to meet the challenges they are likely to face in the real world, and turn out into professionals. Mr. The speaker, Shrestha, had years of practical experience and market wisdom in his pocket and he transmitted the base knowledge and the advanced attitude to the investing topic to the attendees.
The session started on a basis of introduction to the working of stock markets. Mr. Shrestha was explaining the fundamentals of equity, debt instrument, and different indices that showed performance of market. He demystified these jargons into easy to understand terms, and in so doing, made it possible that both the finance and non finance students could meaningfully join in the discussions.
He also discussed about stock exchange, brokerage firms and the regulatory agencies like SEBON (Securities Board of Nepal) which was useful to the students to get an idea about the type of infrastructure that ensures continuation of trade in the stock markets in Nepal and the rest of the world.
One of the main highs of the session was how Mr. Shrestha demonstrated technical as well as fundamental analysis. He exposed students to real time charting tools and analytical tools and demonstrated the process of interpreting candlestick patterns, moving averages, volume and trend lines. The tools which are commonly applied by traders and market analysts to predict movement on the market were described with examples of a recent movement of the market thus, the session was very interesting and relevant.
He even made mention of the basics like earnings releases, economic updates and geopolitical events that also tend to affect the valuation of the stock in a large degree. Opposing the two approaches to their analysis, Mr. Shrestha pointed at the necessity of a balanced approach to investments, both based on and informed by data, yet not disconsidering the context.
During the session, Mr. Shrestha used real life case examples of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) and other markets abroad to make his points. These examples did not only allow some lively discussions but also allowed students to tie theory and practice together. He described some lessons he learned in the COVID-19 market crash, the recent technology stock boom, and change of fortune in commodity-related shares.
He even gave some good tips to newbies, emphasizing that they should keep to risk management, diversification and have long term goals on investing. It is what he had to say: the stock market is a serious and not a gambling place to invest and invest wisely through research and patience.
The workshop was notable by its interactivity. A question-answer session was also conducted where they had the chance to ask anything, may it be “How do I invest as a student? ” or “How do world market forces affect NEPSE?”. Mr. Shrestha responded to every question clearly and with inspiration, which raised more questions by participants as well.
Some of the students showed interest in learning about stock trading websites, financial modeling, and even trying to receive certifications in investment analysis following the lecture. This completely fits in the vision of Embark College to raise self-driven and well-informed students.
Such events are encouraging to Embark College and it is in line with the striving to conduct holistic education that is not limited to the classroom. Financial literacy is fast becoming a vital subject in this economy; thus, this kind of expert-led session!”); cuts students loose to pursue their academic and career goals with certainty.
