On 18 th June, at Embark College, we had a very interesting and informative platter on the topic of Business Model Canvas, which was taken by a very well-known entrepreneur and business strategist Mr. Ruchin Singh. The seminar was an extension of the college to support its efforts to merge real world application to business along with the theoretical aspect of business studies and give students the tools and the know how with which to work in the modern business environment as opposed to the traditional business driven world.
The faculty gave a warm welcome at the beginning of the session after which the guest speaker was introduced very briefly. Mr. Ruchin Singh is a well-known coworker in the startup community and comes with a full bucket of experience related to startup mentoring, business structure development, and innovation-based growth. His in depth knowledge on the concept of entrepreneurship and strategic management made his learning experience very interesting and interactive.
Over the course of the session, Mr. Singh also familiarized students with Business Model Canvas (BMC) the strategic management tool enabling organizations to facilitate the visualization, design, and pivot of business models with ease. He talked about the nine central building blocks of the BMC:
- Customer Segments
- Value Propositions
- Channels
- Customer Relationships
- Revenue Streams
- Key Resources
- Key Activities
- Key Partnerships
- Cost Structure
With real-life examples and case studies, Mr. Singh elaborated how both the established business and new business utilize the BMC to master their models, craft areas of growth and continue to remain in line with both customer and market trends. The presentation was interactive and the images used were appealing and made the students relate the theory with the practice.
The interactive activity which involved letting the students develop their own business models using the canvas was one of the highlights of the session because students were in small teams and this activity encouraged them to participate more actively. This practical activity has involved both creative thinking and the ability of students to learn how to critically examine different aspects that should make a business have a sustainable business strategy. Mr. Singh was passing in the class and provided every group with valuable feedback and suggestions as well as support.
The session had a question and answer session where the students asked profound questions on business planning, innovations and entrepreneurship issues. Mr. The teacher replied to every question in a very clear and in-depth manner which made learning just as pleasant. What really hit home was his suggestions on resilience, on being customer-centric, and being able to be adaptable in the present-day competitive environment.
Faculty members were fond of how Mr. Singh was able to combine his academic work with the real world experiences in such a way that it became extremely easy to comprehend complicated terms by the students. Those with the idea of launching their own businesses would have found the session particularly helpful since it has given a basis upon which they can develop their idea and measure it.
To conclude, the college would like to thank Mr. Ruchin Singh by the sincere gratitude in his time and experience and dedication in nurturing startup mentality in students. The Business Model Canvas workshop not only helped to gain more academic insight but also engaged the students to think inventively and strategically one of the fundamental messages Embark College aspires all of its learners.
This session has been a success and this will affirm the mission of Embark College which is to offer an experience learning environment and also to involve students in the industry leaders who can mentor upcoming students on the ways of the real world.
